COLUMBUS, Neb. — Danielle Lemek is in a class all by herself.

The Doniphan-Trumbull senior finished her high school career in style, bringing home her fourth Class C state title Tuesday at Quail Run Golf Course.

After firing a 77 on the first day, Lemek came back with a record 5-under 67 to finish the two-day tournament at even-par 144, 18 strokes better than Britany Seda of three-time team champion Boone Central.

Lemek's 67 is the best 18-hole score in state tournament history. From the seventh through the 16th holes in the final round, she was 6 under par.

She's the second girl in Nebraska to win four titles and the 17th nationally. Lincoln Southeast's Angie Wilson won her four in Class A from 1985 to 1988.

“It's a great accomplishment,” Lemek said. “Right now, I can't find words to describe how amazing this feeling is.”

Doniphan-Trumbull coach Chris Seberger said the Bradley recruit is very deserving.

“It's been fun coaching her,” Seberger said. “To see someone so dedicated to a sport that she loves and works so hard, she deserves all the success she has had. She doesn't miss a day swinging clubs.

“She forces herself to work, even during the winter time. She goes inside and hits the ball inside. And most of all, she's mentally tough and that's says a lot as well. It's hard to believe it's over coaching her.”

Lemek played the front nine in 1-under 35, driving the green on the ninth hole and two-putting for birdie.

She got her eagle on the next hole, igniting a 4-under 32 on the back nine.

“My short game was dead yesterday,'' Lemek said. “In my dad's words, ‘She wasn't here yesterday and finally she showed up today.'”

While Lemek was closing the books on her prep career, Boone Central also did some celebrating.

After entering Tuesday tied for the lead with Valentine at 373, the Cardinals fired a 359 to to win their third straight title. They were 25 strokes ahead of runner-up Wayne.

The Cardinals had two top-five finishers. Seda was second with a 162, while Amy Ahlers came in fifth with a 173.

“The girls really handled the pressure of being the two-time champions very well,'' Boone Central coach Dennis Walters said. “They felt they could win it again all year. The girls just came together and played well today.”
