Bellevue can't host 2012 state championships

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. — Bellevue can't host the 2012 NSAA softball championships, the Nebraska School Activities Association board learned Thursday.

"It's impossible for them,'' NSAA Interim Executive Director Steve Shanahan said. "They can't pour the footings for the central complex" because of high water tables from this year's flooding.

Hastings, which hosted the tournament this year and will have the 2013 tournament under a four-year deal involving the NSAA and Bellevue, will be approached about taking the 2012 event.

The search committee to hire an executive director reported that after applications close Dec. 1, an outside firm will check references and then the committee will recommend no more than four candidates for interviews. The position will be filled by the end of February.
