OMAHA - Lucas Van Wie set a pair of school records for the Grand Island Senior High boys Saturday at the Omaha Westside Invite Saturday.

Van Wie set the times in the 100-meter freestyle and the 100 backstroke to help the Islander boys take 10th with 53 points. The GISH girls finished seventh with 102 points.

Van Wie won the 100 freestyle with a school-record 49.04 seconds, while taking third in the 100 backstroke at 56.54, also a school record.

Krista Van Wie earned a pair of automatic state times for the Islanders in taking second in the 100 breaststrke (1:10.68) and third in the 200 individual medley (2:17.22).

The 200 medley relay team of Van Wie, Cassie Watts, Carly Wahlmeier and Amy Wahlmeier earned an automatic state berth by finishing third (1:57.61). Watts finished third in the 100 backstroke (1:04.67) for a secondary state time.

Also earning secondary state times were for the boys were Daniel Novinski (100 backstroke and 200 individual medley), the 200 medley and freestyle relay teams. Grabbing secondary state times for the girls were Carly Wahlmeier (200 freestyle and 100 breaststroke), Amy Wahlmeier (50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke), Indiga Hadford (100 breaststroke), Brianna Jim (100 freestyle), Watts (100 freestyle) and the 200 freestyle relay.
