The road to the state tournament begins this weekend for many Iowa wrestlers.

Postseason grappling is scheduled to get under way Saturday for Class 1-A and 2-A, with sectional meets beginning at noon. The top two finishers at each weight class advance to districts Feb. 11, and the top two teams move on to a four-school regional dual contest Tuesday.

In 1-A, western Iowa schools will be at Riverside, Tri-Center, Corning and Guthrie Center.

Ninth-ranked Tri-Center and Logan-Magnolia will clash at Tri-Center and bring a combined eight ranked wrestlers to the event.

No. 6 Underwood figures to rule the afternoon at Riverside. The Eagles boast four ranked athletes as part of a group that is undefeated in dual action this year.

No. 8 Martensdale-St. Marys, with five rated wrestlers, is among the entries at Corning.

In 2-A, No. 10 Atlantic is the favorite and brings four members among the top 10 in the state at their weights.

Another 2-A sectional involving western Iowa athletes is at Creston/Orient-Macksburg. The fourth-rated hosts bring six top-10 grapplers at their weights.

Also in 2-A, Sioux City Heelan, Sergeant Bluff-Luton are among the schools in action at OA-BCIG.

Class 3-A schools jump into the postseason fray with district action next weekend.
