YORK – The Grand Island Senior High golf team ended the day seven strokes better than York as the Dukes hosted the Islanders in dual action on Monday at the York Country Club.
GI fired a team score of 173, while York posted a 180.
Leading the way for YHS was Leighton Thomas with a 40. Toby Lewis scored a 42, while Jonas Christensen shot a 44 and Creighton Loreman had a 54.
The Islanders’ low round came from Cale Bensen, who shot a 38.
In junior varsity action, it was the Dukes besting the Islanders 215-228 led by 53s from Keagan Crawford and Kyle Haarmann.
"Leighton and Toby had a solid day, but the other varsity guys struggled,” said York head coach Dan Malleck. “The JV team continues to improve. It was good to see them beat a Class A squad."
York’s next action will be at the Central Conference Meet in Central City on Friday.
