SkillsUSA Nebraska, a Nebraska Department of Education student organization, recently recognized award winners and elected new officers during its 2012 conference in Hastings.
About 1,400 people attended the conference, including 1,000 high school, college and technical students and advisors.
These students were elected high school officers for 2012-13: Sierra Wignall, Seward; Christina Tran, Papillion-La Vista; Konner Lamb, Louisville; Katie Zeluf, Louisville; Cale Miller, Seward; Emily Heerten, Keya Paha County; Zachary Bruick, Seward.
These students were elected college/technical school officers for 2012-13: Zach Pechacek, Metropolitan Community College in Omaha; Elise DeMaranville, Metro.
Chris Salberg of Sterling was named Outstanding High School Advisor of the Year. Dave Horst of Metropolitan was named Outstanding College/Technical Advisor of the Year.
Tim Schirmer of Adams Central, Brett Forsman of Grand Island and Dan Zabel of Southeast Community College in Lincoln were elected to the SkillsUSA Nebraska Board of Directors.
Students participated in 90 hands-on skill and leadership contests. First-place winners qualify for the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Championships Conference. The championships will be June 23-27, in Kansas City, Mo.
