PEORIA, Ill. — The Creighton baseball team scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning Saturday to rally for a 7-4 win over Bradley.
The win was Creighton's first on the road this season in conference play as the Bluejays improved to 17-23 overall and 4-12 in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Saturday's victory marked the second time in a week the Bluejays trailed after eight innings and rallied to win. The Bluejays are now 8-130 under coach Ed Servais when trailing after eight innings.
Chance Ross had three of the Bluejays' eight hits, including a solo home run. The senior third baseman drove in a pair of runs and also stole a base.
With CU trailing 4-3 entering the ninth, Alex Staehely started the rally when he was hit by a pitch. Mike Gerber then walked, and both runners moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt from Scott Thornburg.
Jake Peter then tied the game with a single up the middle, and Brennan Murphy put the Jays ahead with a safety squeeze that scored Gerber. Ross followed with a two-run double to give Creighton a 7-4 lead.
Reese McGraw (3-5) threw two innings of perfect relief to get the win for the Jays. Starting pitcher Erik Mattingly allowed four runs — three earned — on six hits in four innings. He struck out four and walked two.
