LINCOLN — The eighth-seeded Spartans tied the game with four runs in the sixth and won it by scoring once in the top of the eighth.
The second-seeded Wildcats were cruising along with a 6-2 lead when Lincoln East strung together six sixth-inning hits. Jared Nelson, Ryan Schrad, Hank Neal and Connor Vidlock each had RBIs, and the score remained tied until the top of the eighth.
Josh Pella singled with one out and he eventually scored on a wild pitch by Tyler Kallman to put the Spartans up 7-6. The Wildcats threatened in the bottom of the inning by putting runners at first and third with two out but pitcher Jake Hohensee retired Austin Wulff on a grounder to third to end it.
It was the third time in the past three weeks that Lincoln East has defeated Millard West, which finishes the season 29-8.
