A man charged in connection with a 2011 residential burglary was among two people police arrested Wednesday after a crush of officers armed with rifles surrounded an Omaha apartment building.
Steven M. Vinson, 27, was a passenger in a maroon Chrysler near 84th and Q Streets that police were alerted to at 5:15 p.m. Officers in a police helicopter followed the vehicle to the Cedarwood Apartments complex near 74th and Hickory Streets.
Vinson and the driver fled to an apartment rented by a woman who is a friend of one or both of them, police said.
“They refused to answer the door,” Sgt. Pam Volk said.
Authorities surrounded the multistory building in the complex, which is near Bergan Mercy Medical Center.
Police spoke by telephone with Vinson and persuaded him to come out.
Two other men, including one who hid under a bed, two women and a boy remained inside. Police later forced them out.
All were released except Allen Williams, also 27, who was arrested on a warrant charging him with violating parole, police said.
