Kiewit Power Nuclear Co. has won a $64 million contract to help maintain the Omaha Public Power District’s power plants.
The OPPD board of directors approved the contract at its Thursday meeting.
Kiewit will provide additional workers for the utility’s nuclear and coal power plants and the backup plants, typically run on natural gas, that are used at time of peak demand.
The contract runs for three years and includes an option for four one-year extensions. Kiewit will provide skilled workers for projects that require significant, short-term increases in staff. An example: an iron worker.
Previously, Day & Zimmermann NPS held the contract for supplemental workers.
Of the three bids ultimately considered, Kiewit’s offered an evaluated bid of $64.5 million; Day and Zimmermann, $65.8 million and Williams Plant Services, $67.8 million.
