The second annual Yoga Rocks the Park kicks off in Omaha on Sunday.
When: Sundays at 4 p.m., May 27 - July 22
Where: Turner Park at Midtown Crossing, Omaha
Organizers are inviting everyone from advanced yogis to first-timers for free, outdoor yoga sessions at Turner Park in Midtown Crossing every Sunday from May 27 through July 22.
“You'll see people doing headstands, and you'll see people sitting on chairs,” said Lora Haase, director of the event.
The event started in Denver and has spread to five other U.S. cities.
Last summer, its first year in the metro, each session attracted 200 to 400 people. Organizers hope for a similar turnout this year.
“We prepare for about 500, hope for 1,000 and celebrate if there's two,” Haase said.
Haase, who teaches at Lotus House of Yoga near 144th and West Maple Road, will be one of the instructors. A different instructor will lead each class, which start at 4 p.m. Local bands and DJs will perform. There's a kids yoga session with singing, dancing and hula-hooping that also starts at 4 p.m.
“It is really about creating an atmosphere where everyone can come out and do yoga and connect,” Haase said.
Register online or in person before an individual session. You may also make a donation at that time. Contributions will benefit Yoga World Reach, a national charity which offers yoga and alternative therapy programs to those in need, and nine local charities (below).
