Paxton building gets gastropub
The Omaha Tap House, a new gastropub, is opening downtown in the Paxton building.
Owner Kent Letnes, with the St. Cloud, Minn.-based Letnes Restaurant Group, is opening the restaurant in the former Crane Coffee space on the corner of 14th and Farnam Streets.
Omaha Tap House will have a wide selection of beers and a menu with what Letnes described as “upscale bar food.”
This is the first Omaha restaurant for the Letnes Group. The group has 16 restaurants around the country, though this will be the only Tap House.
“We like Omaha,” Letnes said. “We’ve been finding a lot of great restaurants here, and we like the downtown a lot.”
Letnes runs the company with his father and brother. When they were looking for their next location, Omaha kept coming up.
The Paxton space, he said, was perfect.
“I don’t want to say Omaha is underserved,” Letnes said, “but I do think it’s overlooked a little bit.”
The Omaha Tap House should open in late summer.
Vincenzo’s moves west
Vincenzo’s west Omaha location has moved from 144th and Blondo Streets to 157th and Pacific Streets.
The new west Omaha restaurant is at 15701 Pacific St. The phone number at the new location is 402-498-3889.
The restaurant has one other Omaha location, 1207 Harney St. in the Old Market, and a location in downtown Lincoln.
Kitchen appears to be closed
Come On Into My Kitchen, at 5423 Leavenworth St., appears to have closed.
Earlier this week, the sign was gone and shades drawn, and the phone number has been disconnected.
Dundee Bread Oven no more
The Dundee location of the Bread Oven also is closed.
The locally-owned shop’s west Omaha location remains open. The person who answered the phone earlier this week at the west location said the midtown store closed a few weeks ago.
The remaining Bread Oven is at 1314 South 119th St., the phone number is 402-778-9296.
Holiday special offered
Tanduri Fusion is having a Memorial Day weekend special.
The restaurant will serve half-price house wine, draft beer and appetizers beginning tomorrow through the end of the day on Monday.
The restaurant has a new jalapeno beer that owner Kishor Karki said pairs well with the restaurant’s spicy food.

New Ashland winery opens
Eastern Nebraska has a new winery.
Cellar 426 Winery is in Ashland, three miles west of Mahoney State Park. Cellar 426 currently has four wines available for tasting and purchase and has plans to expand the line as more types of wine age and become ready for bottling.
The winery sits on 20 acres of land and views from the outdoor deck stretch to Lincoln. The dining room has a large tasting bar and fireplace, and the winery will serve locally produced bread, meat and cheese. A gift shop will sell wine accessories and other gifts.
Owners Richard and Amy Hilske have been working to open a winery for more than 10 years. They bought the land near Ashland and planted the first grapes in 2006. The couple broke ground on the winery in 2010 and the business opened in May. Eventually, they hope to have live music and winemaker dinners on site.
Tours of the winery are available on weekends. Cellar 426 is at 1402 Dennis Dean Road, one half mile off Highway 66 just outside of Ashland. Hours are Fridays, 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, visit www.cellar426.com.
Flea market and fresh produce
The Benson Farmer’s Market is playing host to a flea market this Saturday.
The north end of the market will be reserved for people with things to sell from a table, tent or vehicle. The cost for vendors to set up shop in the area is $10, you can rent a folding table for an additional $5.
Vendors will be able to accept credit cards and the flea market area also will feature live music.
Flea Market Saturday at the Benson Farmer’s Market also will take place on June 30, July 28, Aug. 25 and Sept. 29.

Learn how to make pizza
Portovino is having a pizza-making class on Saturday.
Families can join the restaurant’s new executive chef, Christian Frangiadis, from noon to 2 p.m., and learn how to make and stretch dough, how to make pizza sauce and how to combine toppings to make both classic and unexpected pizzas. After the class, students can eat the pizzas they made.
