URBANDALE, Iowa — Siblings Pete and Kate Walker of Red Oak finished third on Tuesday in the Class 1-A co-ed state tennis tournament at Walker-Johnson Park.
The Walkers, a junior and freshman, respectively, won three matches before falling 6-4, 6-3 to eventual champions Jalyn Deering and Brayton Rasche of Camanche in the semifinals. The Tiger team came back to beat Dubuque Wahlert siblings Courtney and Brandon Schneider 6-1, 6-3 in the third-place match.
Three western Iowa teams lost in the round of 16: Kimberly Graf and Jacob Holmes of Shenandoah, Kassidy Ipsen and TJ Pauley of Denison-Schleswig, and Makenzie Johnson and Trent Turney of Shenandoah.
Kuemper teams fare well in 1-A co-ed golf
ADEL, Iowa — Carroll Kuemper placed two of its teams in the top six on Tuesday in the Class 1-A state co-ed golf tournament at River Valley Golf Course.
Seniors Brian Schreck and Megan Wiederin placed fourth for Kuemper with a score of 78. Also for the Knights, senior Tanner Ludwig and sophomore Morgan Naberhaus ended sixth with an 80.
Justin Kraft and Makayla Ernst of East Sac County won with a 76.
Brittain Swartz and Bailey Heaton of Corning finished just outside the top 10 with an 84.
Carroll High duo 7th in 2-A golf
BOONE, Iowa — Seniors Brad Christensen and Sara Pettitt of Carroll High finished seventh on Tuesday at the Class 2-A state co-ed golf tournament at Cedar Pointe Golf Course.
West Des Moines Dowling's Jon Calhoun and Sammy Olson won with a 75.
