Fans, utility bill help available from state
Fans and assistance in paying summer cooling bills are available to those who qualify through two Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services programs.
The department has partnered with 43 organizations in Nebraska to distribute fans to people. Recipients are determined by the organizations that distribute them.
The Omaha fan partners are the Eastern Nebraska Community Action Program, 2406 Fowler St., 402-453-5656; the Heart Ministry Center, 2222 Binney St., 402-451-2321; the Salvation Army, 3612 Cuming St., 402-898-5900; Together Inc., 1616 Cass St., 402-345-8047; and the Open Door Mission, 2828 N. 23rd St. East, 402-422-1111.
Additional information and applications for utility bill assistance can be found at ACCESSNebraska.ne.gov, at 1-800-383-4278 or at any local department office. There are income limits.
La Vista offers escape Friday for children
Summer Escapes, which is new to La Vista this summer, will feature free, simple fun for children. Registration is not required.
The first of the escapes will begin at 3 p.m. Friday at La Vista Central Park, Edgewood Boulevard and Valley Road.
The theme will be Bubbles, Games and Dreamsicles. Play at the park, blow bubbles (bring your own bubble makers) and enjoy a Popsicle.
Elks, Girl Scouts plan Flag Day program
Omaha Elks Lodge 39 and the Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska Honor Guard will present “The History of Our Flag” on Thursday, which is Flag Day.
Activities will begin at 6 p.m. at the lodge, 6410 S. 96th St., and include a flag retirement ceremony.
