The Pretty Things Peepshow is a combination of burlesque show, sideshow and straight-up circus.
Since Amy Warnke, better known as Go-Go Amy, founded the group four years ago, they’ve toured nearly constantly (15 times, to be exact) and have performed with Motley Crue and Ozzy Osbourne, among others. Their current tour will include stops in both Omaha and Lincoln, at House of Loom, 1012 S. 10th St., on Sunday at 8 p.m., and at the Bourbon Theater, 1415 O St., in Lincoln, on Monday at 7 p.m.
Go-Go Amy does the burlesque portion of the show, and other performers throw knives, swallow swords, crack whips and perform aerial acrobatics. Many of the acts are reminiscent of vaudeville, though the Pretty Things team, three women and one man, prefer the term “Broadville” when it comes specifically to the Pretty Things Peepshow
Go-Go Amy has performed burlesque for more than a decade, and while she loves it, it’s awfully girly — perhaps too girly for some — what with the sequins and costumes and makeup.
She had also performed in vaudevillian and circus sideshow-type acts. And she liked those, too, for completely different reasons. After all, no one would describe juggling chain saws or knives — which both have been featured in the Pretty Things show — as too girly.
“I just wanted to take the best of every show I’ve been in and put it all on one stage,” she said.
The result she is aiming for is “the world’s prettiest sideshow or the world’s most interesting burlesque show.”
This invariably draws a mixed audience.
“On the first show of the tour, I saw my dad sitting next to a drag queen sitting next to a bachelorette party,” she said.
The Pretty Things shows draw older people, who can maybe just barely remember seeing vaudeville or vaudeville revival shows when they were kids, she said. They also draw younger people, who have never seen something like a sword swallower in detailed, non-digitally-enhanced real life.
Tickets for the Omaha show are $15, available at the door the day of the show only. Tickets for the Lincoln show are $10 in advance, $15 day of the show and are available at etix.com. More information and videos available at prettythingsproductions.com.
