Boasting “We get the job done!,” the Lil' Slim Blues Band delivers a hot take on the Chicago blues sound.
Bandleader Shawn “Lil' Slim” Holt is the son of legendary blues man Magic Slim, and Lil' Slim started playing blues at age 17. From there, he's formed several blues bands including the Back Alley Blues Band, the Teardrops, True Songs of the Blues and the Blues Messengers.
After relocating to Nebraska, Slim formed his latest group with Jeff Boehmer on bass, Bo Rose on drums and Joshua Hoyer on vocals, saxophone and keys.
In 2011, the band released “Still in the Game,” which has been called old-school blues in the style of Slim's father and his contemporaries.
The band won the Omaha Blues Society's blues competition in 2011 and participated in the 2012 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tenn. Bands compete in a tournament where they perform and are judged by other blues artists. The competition also is used to show off newer blues bands to promoters.
