U.S. Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb., reflected Friday at the Omaha Press Club on his career in politics.
Nelson was governor of Nebraska and has represented the state in the Senate since 2001.
Nelson bemoaned the rise of partisanship and special interests. He said both prevent progress, particularly when Senate rules make it so easy for the minority party to shut down everything.
He said those elected Tuesday need to come together.
"You've got to get solutions, not slogans," Nelson said.
