Four western Iowa volleyball players have been named first-team all-staters by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association.
The IGCA released its teams on Monday. First-team selections included Harlan Community sophomore outside hitter Jess Schaben and Sioux City Heelan senior libero Katelynn Poss in Class 4-A; Carroll Kuemper senior outside hitter Brandi Bueltel in Class 2-A; and Stanton junior outside hitter Carmen Subbert in Class 1-A. All four girls led their teams to the state tournament.
Schaben becomes a two-time, first-team all-stater, while Subbert moves up from last year’s second team.
Nine other western Iowans earned all-state honors. Second-team recognition went to Heelan’s Megan McCarthy in 4-A; Maple Valley-Anthon-Oto’s Meagan Kerns in 2-A; and Bedford’s Kayla Lindenmeyer in 1-A.
Six more picked up third-team laurels: Red Oak’s Kate Walker in 3-A; IKM-Manning’s Kaylee Blake, Treynor’s Chaley Rath and Council Bluffs St. Albert’s Katie Kuck and Kylie Ferguson in 2-A; and Stanton’s Rachel Sorensen in 1-A.
McCarthy and Kerns are second-team all-staters for a second straight season, while Blake also becomes a two-time all-stater.
No western Iowans made the eight-player, all-class elite team. MOC-Floyd Valley junior Alexis Conaway was named the overall state player of the year, while the other players of the year by class were Audrey Reeg of Dubuque Hempstead (5-A); Jessie Sindlinger of Charles City (4-A); Conaway (3-A); Briana Weber of Dike- New Hartford and Brooke Wolterstorff of Hull Western Christian (2-A); and Samantha Meyer of Grundy Center (1-A).
The IGCA also released its all-district teams.
