TV What to Watch: 'Beastly' is modern fairy tale

“Beastly” 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Showtime (2011)

This modern take on the “Beauty and the Beast” tale involves a New York teen who is transformed into a hideous monster in order to find true love. Starring Vanessa Hudgens and Alex Pettyfer.

“Grumpier Old Men” 8 p.m. to 10:15 p.m., CMT (1995)

Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau reprise their roles for this sequel, where the two old rivals prepare for the wedding of their children. Also starring Ann-Margret and Sophia Loren.

“Dateline NBC” 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., NBC (New)

The story of a Florida woman who is abducted, resulting in three failed attempts to deliver ransom and leading to a bizarre close to the case.

“Back to the Beginning with Christiane Amanpour” 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., ABC (New)

The reporter concludes her exploration of biblical stories and places in the Middle East involving the origins of many of the world’s religions.

“American Masters” 9 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., PBS (New)

A history of the Joffrey Ballet features archival footage and interviews with past and present dancers and excerpts from the company’s signature works and collaborations with other well-known choreographers.

“Bering Sea Gold: Back to the Dredge” 9 p.m., Discovery (New)
