Notes: McCook's Schlager picks CSU

All-Nebraska defensive back Jake Schlager of McCook is returning to his home state to play for Colorado State and All-Nebraska linebacker Luke McNitt of Kearney is staying home to play for UNK.

Additionally, Class B all-stater Luke Worden of Scottsbluff is planning to sign with South Dakota. The national letter of intent signing period for football begins Feb. 6.

Schlager, who was born in Colorado, wasted no time recently in accepting the Rams' offer. He called their coaches back the same day.

“Colorado State had been at the top of his list for a long time,” McCook coach Jeff Gross said.

North Dakota State, South Dakota State, South Dakota and Southeast Missouri also made offers to the 6-foot-1, 195-pound Schlager.

McNitt, who was a record-setting quarterback for Kearney, will follow older brother Tyler to the University of Nebraska at Kearney. The Lopers will try him on offense first, he said.

Worden turned down preferred walk-on offers from Nebraska, Wyoming and Colorado State to accept the scholarship offer from the Coyotes.
