UNK tops Maryville in Denney's homecoming; Skutt triumphs

Defending national champion University of Nebraska-Kearney topped Maryville (Mo.) University 29-12 Thursday at Millard South.

The night was a homecoming of sorts for Maryville coach Mike Denney. The former head coach for 32 years at UNO, Denney brought his new team to Omaha for the first time.

In the most anticipated match of the night, Maryville sophomore Keenan Hagerty upset senior Raufeon Stots of UNK at a 149-pound rematch of last year's national championship match. Haggerty avenged the loss for the title with a 6-1 victory Thursday night.

In a pair of high school duals before, Class B No. 1 Omaha Skutt beat Elkhorn South 49-15 and Millard South, ranked fourth in Class A, topped Lincoln Northeast 63-15.
