YORK – The Osceola Bulldogs kept throwing away possessions and the High Plains Storm made them pay.
The Bulldogs committed 32 turnovers in the game, 20 over the two middle quarters as the Storm improved to 13-3 with the 59-38 win for third place in the CRC Tournament at the York City Auditorium.
Osceola led after the first quarter 14-12, but things went downhill fast from that point.
High Plains started to pull away as the Bulldogs attempted only six shots and the Storm began to roll behind Logan Fleming with 22 game high points and Cole Klingsporn who found his touch with 13 points.
In the second quarter the Storm scored 12 of their 17 points directly off Bulldog turnovers.
High Plains, the No. 7 team in Class D-1, led 29-16 at the break, but the Bulldogs gave their fans some hope as they pulled to within eight points before the miscues started to pile up. In the third quarter, 10 more turnovers led to an 18-14 High Plains run and the lead grew to 47-30 through three quarters of action.
In the third quarter the Bulldogs were 6-8 from the floor, but 10 lost possessions resulting in 10 less attempts at the basket than the Storm all but wiped out their comeback chance.
Osceola finished the game 15-34 from the field and 3-12 from the 3-point arc. The Bulldogs were 5-10 from the free throw line. Leading the way in scoring was Nick Hayes with 13 and Eric Hays with 10.
High Plains put up 58 shots and hit 27, and was 2-16 on 3-point tries. The Storm was 3-6 at the charity stripe and was charted with just 12 turnovers.
