Q: Your team was 7-13 last season. What’s changed this year?
A: Last year, we did not have any seniors graduate. We have our same leaders back, which really helps with good guidance on the floor. This year, we have a deep bench.
Q: How has the team’s success changed your goals?
A: My goal is to be the best I can be. I really would enjoy making it to Lincoln in March. Now that we’re winning it only makes it better.
Q: What’s been the most fun part of having such a good season?
A: I think just coming together as a team and starting to win.
Q: Is everyone in Fort Calhoun excited? Would the whole town go crazy if you made it back to state for the first time since 2007?
A: A lot of people would be down there, I bet. It’s kind of fun for the town when people start winning.
Q: Do you take a lot of pride in your rebounding?
A: I do. That’s one of the most fun things to do because my reach is so much taller than everybody else.
Q: Do you enjoy blocking shots, too?
A: I like the crowd reaction and the fact that they then get in trouble for yelling “you got swatted.”
Q: You’re going to play next year for Grand View in Iowa. How did you pick that school?
A: I played summer league for a traveling team, the Nebraska Force. You get a lot of college looks if you travel a lot. I visited Grand View and I just really liked it.
Q: What made you decide to play basketball instead of your other sports, volleyball and high jumping?
A: Basketball definitely is my favorite sport, and I put in the most work toward it.
Q:What do like about it so much?
A: I like that you can be competitive and the team effort in the sport, unlike track.
Q: Do you have any pregame rituals?
A: I always eat a Reese’s and drink a blue Gatorade. Really healthy, I know. The point guard, Brooke Ohrt, usually buys one for me for the bus rides and stuff.
Q: Who is your favorite player?
A: Rajon Rondo from the Celtics. I think he’s quick and he has cool assists. Except that he just tore his ACL. That’s not so cool.
