Rams suffer first dual loss of season

PLEASANT HILL, Iowa — Southeast Polk wrestled most of its starters. And just like that, Glenwood’s perfect dual season ended.

In a battle of unbeaten Rams teams, Iowa Class 3-A No. 1 Southeast Polk flexed its muscle with seven pins en route to a 48-18 home victory in a regional dual final Wednesday. The favorites built a 48-9 advantage before Glenwood ended the contest with three straight decisions.

“That was the top team in the state tonight,” Glenwood coach Brad Asche said. “When you play a team like that, your mind plays tricks on you sometimes, but overall I’m very satisfied with how we wrestled.”

Glenwood’s lone ranked member, No. 9 Sam Jameson (126 pounds), beat unranked varsity starter Keegan Shaw 13-9. The Hawkeye Ten Conference dual champs also got decisions from Alex Killpack (285), Chase Evans (106) and Cole Peckham (113). Josh Clark (152) pinned backup Davonn Phothiboupha for Glenwood’s other win.
