Seedings set for dual tourney

Qualifiers and seedings for the inaugural state dual wrestling tournament have been made by the Nebraska School Activities Association.

The one-day tournament on Feb. 23 at the University of Nebraska-Kearney Health and Sports Center includes eight teams from each class in a bracketed pool.

Class A’s top seed is four-time defending individual tournament champion Grand Island. The Islanders drew Lincoln Southwest in the first round. Omaha Skutt, David City and Amherst were the top seeds for Classes B, C and D, respectively.

Wrestling for Class B and Class C starts at 8:30 a.m., with the finals slated for 11:30 a.m. The second session, which includes Class A and Class D, begins at 3 p.m., with finals at 6 p.m.

First-round matches, with seeds noted:

Class A: No. 1 Grand Island vs. No. 8 Lincoln Southwest, No. 4 Millard West vs. No. 5 Millard South, No. 2 Omaha Burke vs. No. 7 Omaha Creighton Prep, No. 3 Kearney vs. No. 6 Omaha North.

Class B: No. 1 Omaha Skutt vs. No. 8 Alliance, No. 4 Plattsmouth vs. No. 5 Syracuse, No. 2 Nebraska City vs. No. 7 York, No. 3 Lexington vs. No. 6 Scottsbluff.

Class C: No. 1 David City vs. No. 8 David City Aquinas, No. 4 Wilber-Clatonia vs. No. 5 Central City, No. 2 Madison vs. No. 7 Sargent/Burwell, No. 3 Valentine vs. No. 6 O’Neill.

Class D: No. 1 Amherst vs. No. 8 Maxwell, No. 4 Plainview vs. No. 5 East Butler, No. 2 Pender vs. No. 7 Neligh-Oakdale, No. 3 Bayard vs. No. 6 High Plains.
